WINE COOKIES WITH LEMON GLAZE

These delicate Italian wine cookies are a classic holiday treat you’ll find on Nonna’s table every Christmas.

Ingredients

For the Cookies

  • 2 cups 00 flour (or all-purpose flour)

  • A pinch of salt

  • ⅓ cup warm dry white wine

  • ¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil

For the Lemon Glaze

  • 1 large egg white

  • 1¼ cups powdered sugar, sifted

  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice


Instructions

Make the Dough

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt.

  2. Gradually add the warm white wine and olive oil.

  3. Mix until a soft, smooth dough forms.

  4. Knead briefly on a work surface until elastic and not sticky.

  5. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes.

Shape the Cookies

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Roll small portions of dough into ropes about 4 inches long.

  3. Join the ends to form small rings.

  4. Place cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Bake

  1. Bake for 22–25 minutes, until lightly golden and crisp.

  2. Remove from oven and let cool completely before glazing.

Prepare the Lemon Glaze

  1. In a bowl, whisk the egg white until lightly foamy.

  2. Gradually add powdered sugar and lemon juice.

  3. Whisk until smooth and thick but pourable.

Glaze the Cookies

  1. Dip each cooled cookie into the glaze or spoon glaze over the top.

  2. Place on a rack and let the glaze set completely.


Tips & Tricks

  • Use warm wine, not hot, to help the dough come together smoothly.

  • For extra crunch, bake 2–3 minutes longer.

  • Store in an airtight container for up to 10 days.
