Ingredients

For the Cookies:

  • 1 ½ cups (190 g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup (50 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of ground cloves
  • Pinch of salt
  • ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup (120 ml) whole milk
  • ¼ cup (60 g) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp honey

For the Chocolate Glaze:

  • 6 oz (170 g) semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp honey

For Garnish:

  • Crushed pistachios or sprinkles (optional)

Step-by-Step Method

1. Prepare the Dough:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the sugar and egg until light and fluffy. Add the milk, melted butter, vanilla extract, and honey, mixing until combined.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until a soft, sticky dough forms.

2. Shape and Bake the Cookies:

  1. Using a spoon or cookie scoop, drop mounds of dough (about 2 tablespoons each) onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  2. Slightly flatten the tops of the dough mounds with the back of a spoon.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 12–15 minutes, or until the cookies are set and slightly puffed.
  4. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

3. Prepare the Chocolate Glaze:

  1. In a heatproof bowl, melt the chopped chocolate and butter over a saucepan of simmering water (double boiler method). Stir until smooth.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in the honey for a glossy finish.

4. Glaze and Decorate:

  1. Dip the tops of the cooled cookies into the melted chocolate glaze, letting the excess drip off.
  2. Place the glazed cookies back on the wire rack.
  3. Sprinkle with crushed pistachios or colorful sprinkles for decoration, if desired.

5. Let Set and Serve:

  1. Allow the glaze to set at room temperature or chill the cookies briefly in the refrigerator.
  2. Serve and enjoy these rich, chocolatey cookies with coffee or tea!
